From the issues identified, which do you think is the most significant and why?
If you were the CIO of a university that was facing this issue, how would you go about addressing it?

The Novopay Business case is in this week's readings on Blackboard.
Look over Item 4, "Drivers for Change" (in Part 1) and Item 5 "Options Available" (in Part 2).
If you were a Ministry official charged with approving this business case, would you approve it? (why/why not?) How would you go about deciding?
What kind of challenges does the business case present? (The Ministerial Inquiry is also there for those who are interested)

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - INFO 301 CHANGE OF TEST ARRANGEMENTS
In recognition of the inequality that a technology enabled open book test creates for those who do not have access to tablets or laptops we have made a change to the arrangements for this week's test. Instead of requiring you to go to the Kelburn campus, we will make the test available in a "take-home"/online format. We will also provide you with a flexible approach to managing your time for the test.
The test will be available in the INFO 301 Assessment folder on Blackboard from 2.30pm on Wednesday 20th August 2014. You will have until 11:59pm Sunday 24th August 2014 to submit your completed test through Blackboard and Turnitin.
Because this is a test, NO SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS TIME. NO EXCEPTIONS.
No changes have also been made to test originality requirements, and plagiarism will not be accepted. Turnitin will be used to check your work, so please make sure that your answers are your own.
The test covers material from the first 5 weeks of lectures, tutorials, readings and blogs. It has a recommended completion time of 110 minutes and will be marked to the same standard as is expected from a 110 minute test.
Although you now have until Sunday night to submit, we strongly recommend that you complete the test within the originally stated timeframe (5:40pm – 7:30pm Wednesday). We also suggest that you do not wait until the last minute to submit, as technology failure is not an acceptable excuse. If you would prefer to sit the test supervised during the assigned time (5:40pm – 7:30pm on Wednesday), please let me know so that arrangements can be made.

Roche case/Organisational strategy
Please read the Roche case (the article by George Anders from Fast Company - see Blackboard).
What does George Anders mean when he says, "for all of the ingenuity involved in making the GeneChip, it has required cleverness on Roche's part to use the chips effectively within a big organisation"?
(In your answer, give examples of how Roche changed its organisational approach to support effective use of the technology)
